Karaoke Speaker Buying Guide for Importers: Power, Microphones, Battery and Build Quality

How to read a karaoke speaker spec sheet, estimate real battery runtime, choose the right wireless microphones and test a sample before you commit to a container.

Key takeaways

  • Insist on RMS power measured at a stated distortion level. Peak and "PMPO" figures can be many times higher than real output.
  • Battery runtime depends on average load, not rated power. A simple watt-hour calculation lets you check a supplier's claim.
  • Wireless microphones are radio devices. Confirm the frequency band is legal in your target market and test range and feedback on the sample.
  • Trolley speakers are heavy, so wheels, handle and cabinet strength matter as much as sound.
  • Karaoke is a container-order category, so test samples thoroughly and fix specifications in writing before production.

Power ratings: RMS, peak and PMPO

The wattage on the box is the most abused number in the category. Three different figures circulate, and they are not interchangeable:

  • RMS (continuous) power is the sustained output the amplifier can deliver into the speaker at a stated distortion level. It is the number to compare.
  • Peak power is a short burst the system can handle. It is often two or more times the RMS figure.
  • PMPO is a marketing figure that has no standard measurement method and can be dozens of times the real output.

Ask the supplier for RMS output, total harmonic distortion at that power, the supply voltage used for the test and the speaker impedance. A trolley speaker described as 100W should come with a clear statement of which kind of watt that is. Our karaoke range spans about 60W to 150W+ depending on chassis size, and a quote should state the power basis.

Typical positioning by output tier. Actual values depend on the model.
TierTypical useCommon featuresBuyer note

Battery runtime: check the maths

Battery claims are easy to inflate. A speaker rated for high power rarely draws its rated power in normal use, so runtime depends on the average load at the volume customers actually use. A simple estimate:

Runtime estimate

Runtime (hours) is roughly battery energy in watt-hours multiplied by efficiency, divided by average power draw in watts. For example, a 100 Wh battery at 85 percent efficiency and a 15 W average load runs about 5.7 hours.

Battery energy in watt-hours equals voltage multiplied by capacity in amp-hours. Ask for both, plus the cell type and brand, and the test condition behind any runtime claim (volume level, microphone use, lighting on or off). LED lights can use a meaningful share of the power.

The battery chemistry also affects weight, price and shipping. Lithium packs are lighter and charge faster, while older sealed lead-acid packs are heavier and cheaper but add significant freight weight. Lithium models need battery transport documents, covered in our shipping guide.

Wireless microphones: UHF, range and legality

Most trolley karaoke speakers include one or two wireless microphones, normally UHF. The practical points for a buyer:

  • Frequency band. Allowed radio frequencies differ by country and change over time. Ask for the exact band of each microphone model and confirm it is permitted in your target market.
  • Channel selection. Two microphones should operate on different channels without interference and, ideally, be pre-paired.
  • Range and dropouts. Test in a real room with walls and moving people, not only in line of sight.
  • Microphone battery. Rechargeable microphones with a charging slot reduce complaints compared with disposable batteries.
  • Feedback control. Check howling when the microphone is near the speaker at moderate volume.

Because the microphones transmit radio signals, they need their own compliance evidence in addition to the speaker. See our certification guide for how radio and battery reports fit together.

Build quality: wheels, handle and cabinet

A trolley karaoke speaker is a heavy product that gets dragged over curbs and stairs. Inspect:

  • Wheel material and axle strength, plus how the wheels are fixed to the cabinet
  • Telescopic handle locking and wobble when extended
  • Cabinet material and thickness, since thin panels buzz at high volume
  • Grille, corner protection and the quality of the volume knobs
  • Weight with batteries and the carton size, since freight cost follows both

Sample test routine

  1. Sound at 50, 80 and 100 percent volume. Listen for distortion, cabinet buzz and port noise using a bass-heavy track and a vocal track.
  2. Microphone range and feedback. Walk away from the speaker with both microphones and note dropouts and howling.
  3. Battery runtime. Run at a defined volume with the lights on until shutoff, then compare with the claim.
  4. Charging. Measure charge time and check heat and charging indicator accuracy.
  5. Inputs. Test Bluetooth, AUX, USB and TF card playback and the recording function.
  6. Handling. Roll the speaker over uneven ground, extend and retract the handle and inspect the screws afterwards.
  7. Packaging. Drop-test the carton and confirm that accessories, remote and microphones are included as specified.

Sign off the specification and a golden sample before production, and use a pre-shipment inspection with an agreed AQL, as described in our inspection guide. For regional preferences on power and features, see the karaoke export guide.

FAQ

What is the difference between RMS and PMPO power?

RMS is the continuous output under defined conditions and is the useful number. PMPO is a marketing figure with no standard method, so it can be far higher than real output.

How long will a karaoke speaker run on one charge?

It depends on battery energy and average load. Estimate with watt-hours multiplied by efficiency, divided by average watts, and ask the supplier for the test conditions behind its claim.

How many wireless microphones should a trolley speaker include?

Most models include one or two UHF microphones. Two is popular in many markets, and extra microphones can usually be added.

Are wireless microphones allowed everywhere?

Allowed frequency bands differ by country, so confirm the exact band of the microphone against the regulations of your target market before ordering.

Lithium or lead-acid battery for a karaoke speaker?

Lithium is lighter and charges faster but needs battery transport documents. Lead-acid is cheaper but heavier, which adds freight cost.

What MOQ applies to karaoke speakers?

Our karaoke lines start from 200 pcs per model, and mixed models in one container are welcome.
